Growth Mindset
Carol Dweck’s work on growth mindset may be the most influential work on my parenting and career to date. Last week I found myself in our Middle Level PLC meeting changing a survey scale from not true to not yet in my mind. I did it without intentionality, it has just become part of who I am.
Actually, I think it has always been part of who I am and how I was raised. I was raised to be a learner of all aspects of life. Growth mindset for me is a way of life- not that I have it all figured out – but it is part of my journey. I didn’t know then what I know now. Back then I just didn’t have the research to show that it wasn’t just my story but it was really part of everyone’s story. From my experience I know that all people, both the cognitively gifted and cognitively shifted, benefit from growth mindset work.
“no matter what your ability is, effort is what ignites that ability and turns it into accomplishment.”
